The first Organ was obtained in 1906 at a cost of £100
superseding a harmonium (at the same time as the wings were added to
the Church).
In 1925 the organ from Lenton Parish church in Nottingham was
purchased for £50 when they were given a new organ by the Player
family to commemorate the marriage of John Player's daughter. It
was enlarged incorporating some of the earlier organ for a total cost
of £600. The opening recital was given by T.W.North (organist:
Walsall Town Hall and broadcaster)on April 21st 1926. A blower is
believed have been installed at that time but not connected until
electricity was installed in 'Bethel' in 1931. the organ being pumped
by hand until then.
In 1950 and 1951 Reginald Foort FRCO the
distinguished broadcast organist gave concerts on the organ.
The organ was overhauled in 1986 when the clarinet 8ft. on the
Great was replaced by the twelfth 2 2/3ft.
The organ was built by John Housley Adkins (Derby) and is still
maintained by his grandson John (Housley) Poyser (Derby).
In January 2008 John Poyser retired and we wish him well
We have now appointed Henry Grove and son of Nottingham. |
