B Winning Methodist Church (9 Members)
Hilcote
Named after the local mine(closed), B Winning is a
quaint church, due to mining subsidence there is not a level
structure in the building , the windows lean in one direction the
pipework in another, and the pulpit in yet another. restoration is in
progress, roof, disabled access, kitchen updated, but maintaining its character.
Although small in numbers B Winning is at the Heart of
the tiny hamlet of Hilcote.

Portland Row Methodist Church
(16 members) Selston
Selston is a large sprawling Nottinghamshire
village built to serve the mines of the Dukes of
Portland. Portland Row was a long terraced row of 58 mineworkers
houses with no access to the rear except at the ends. The row was
just north of the church, the church was named after it and not
Portland Road on which the church stands. Due to the high cost of
maintaining and upgrading the building the member have recently
decided to leave the building at harvest 2006 or even sooner if
suitable arrangements can be made before.
Portland Row Closed on 17th Sep. 2006
The Congregation now meeting at
Selston URC until a new building can be built. |
